At Sunday’s Juno Awards (which her co-hosted by comedian Russell Peters and singer Bryan Adams), the Strumbellas, The Tragically Hip and Gord Downie were all honoured.

The Strumbellas took home ‘Single of the Year’ with their hit song, ‘Spirits’, beating out the favourite Drake and his mega-hit ‘One Dance’.

If it sounds like that was an upset, don’t worry because The Strumbellas didn’t think that they were going to win either!

Lead singer Simon Ward accepted the award without any shoes on because he was so sure they wouldn’t win.

Dave Ritter said, “What we heard is if you beat Drake, you become Drake.”

Speaking of the 6ix God, Drake picked up the International Achievement Award and The Weeknd picked up ‘R&B/Soul Recording of the Year’ for his hit song, ‘Starboy’.

 

 

The late Leonard Cohen picked up ‘Artist of the Year’; his son Adam Cohen accepted the award on his father’s behalf. He said, “Many international artists find excuses to not participate in the Junos…I think he’s found the best one yet.”

Feist also did a musical tribute to the late legend.

Alessia Cara won ‘Best Pop Album’ (Know-It All) and revealed that she’s already working on her next album, “I can be anywhere…On a bus or a plane — or even in my room in the middle of the night. I’ll just wake up, sing something into my phone and get some time to flesh it out on my guitar.”

 

 

Pickering, Ontario’s Shawn Mendes received a lot of love from his fans, winning the JUNO for ‘Fan Choice’.

 

 

 

The 2017 Junos also featured some incredible performances from Alessia, who performed her hit ‘Scars to Your Beautiful’ and Shawn Mendes (who performed ‘Mercy’).
